Father's Day

What is a Father?

To me a father is someone who gives unconditional love, sets boundaries,  teaches you life skills, spends time with you and is a good listener to name a few.

According to Askmen.com, 12 traits of great fathers are:
1- He's a good disciplinarian
2- He allows his kids to make some mistakes
3- He's open-minded
4- He teaches his children to appreciate things
5- He accepts that his kids aren't exactly like him
6- He spends quality time with his children
7- He leads by example
8- He's supportive & loyal
9- He challenges his kids
10- He teaches his children lessons
11- He protects his family at all costs
12- He shows unconditional love

My dad is "daddy".  He knows when I need a hug, he knows when to listen.  As I grew up I had my "daddy" and some cool, Uncles, Great Uncles, Grandpa's and Great Grandpa's.  They all influence my life for the good and not so good.  When I was 7 or 8, my great Uncle Benny used to take me to the feed mill with him, letting me sit on his lap while he taught me how to shift gears in his pick up truck.  After all the shift was on the column, I had never seen that before.  My Great Grandpa Joe, used to feed me fresh butter off his butter knife and help him play cards at the table with all the other grown ups.  Great Grandpa Fontaine took me apple picking and taught me how to be aware in the woods and "smell" a bear.    My daddy let me be his helper and taught me how to "fix it yourself" on our home projects.   Grandpa D taught me the power of a good story and a captive audience.  My Uncle Larry taught me how to not get caught. =)  I have very fond memories of these men in my life.  Most are no longer physically with us.  Yet have left a mark on me that will last my lifetime.  I have pasted on some of the things I have learned to my children.

So no matter what your status is to children, know you make an impression that lasts a lifetime!  I love and miss you all!
